Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

As all of the country knows by now Georgia has been flooded. We have had insane amounts of rain over the last three weeks and barely seen the sun. Last Friday it started raining and did not quit all night long. It rained all of Saturday and Saturday night. And I don't mean a little shower, I mean a hard, beat on your front door, soaking a person to the skin rain. It thundered and lightninged ALL NIGHT LONG. I am not exaggerating about this. When we got up Sunday morning it was still raining so hard. The weathermen were calling this storm "an un-named tropical storm that has stalled out and is spinning over Georgia. It rained so hard all day Sunday that everybody's yards were flooding. The ditches on the sides of the roads were filling up. There was no end in sight for the rain and thunder. The county called school out for the kids on Monday because it was still raining so hard they were having a hard time getting the buses through some of the smaller streets. By Monday evening creeks and rivers were spilling over their banks. There were so many washed out roads that the police ran out of Road Closed signs and had to just put up Water Over Road signs. As it turned out the counties hardest hit were Paulding County, Douglas County and Cobb County. This is my area of Georgia. Douglas County's water Department is completely shut down. Their kids are out of school this whole week and maybe into next weeks. Our kids have been out of school all week and will probably be out Friday as well. We are on a Boil Water advisory. There is not a gallon jug of water to be found in any store in this county or the next. One of the Cobb COunty schools will probably have to be torn down the water damage was so bad. They have split the kids up between two different schools for the time being.
We have had 10 deaths so far because of flooding. So many people are out of their houses. There are still roads closed around my house and we have to back track to get around them. Yesterday John was heading down I-20 to get into Atlanta to go to work. Traffic stopped still for about 45 minutes. As it turned out, I-20 is completely closed due to 5 inches of water crossing the road. While he was sitting there he watched the water rise up and flow over the road from Six Flags. Six Flags is completely under water. It took him 2 hours to turn around and come home. Today I-20 is still blocked.
I have heard that we have not seen flooding like this in Georgia since the 1940's. It is unbelievable. Luckily we got by with only minimal flooding in our basement. It soaked some carpet in my laundry room and got some dirty clothes wet. John and Teenager took the carpet out and turned on some fans and all is well here. Hopefully with two days of dry weather behind us things will start to get back to normal around here.
